What is... a Volume?
In Databricks, a Volume is a Unity Catalog object that represents a logical storage unit within a cloud object storage location. Volumes are designed to provide governance and organization for non-tabular datasets, such as files in various formats including structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data. They function similarly to tables, which govern tabular data, but are specifically for managing files. Volumes can be either managed or external, and they are organized under a schema within a catalog.
You may, for example see volumes linked to S3 buckets, which would allow direct access to files and data stored within said bucket!
